I was introduced to a different family wedding tradition a few weeks ago during Kaissa and Jason’s wedding at Grand Pre Winery. Every place setting at their reception curiously displayed a roll of paper marked “don’t open me yet”. Of course Jenn and I were dying to know how this would tie into the night, but we decided to wait with the rest of their guests and see what the evening would bring. After desert was served, their MC asked everyone to unroll the paper which contained the lyrics to a song that Kaissa’s family wrote for Jason, outlining how the newlyweds met … and sung to the tune of “Call Me Maybe”.
“Hey, just a coffee,
is all I ask you.
Give me your number,
I’ll call you baby”.
As if it was perfectly rehearsed before hand, the entire wedding reception broke out into song … and it was such a hit that everyone sang it twice.
